J is for Jakuchu

I really know next to nothing about Japanese art, but I enjoy the paintings of Ito Jakuchu.  He lived from1716–1800 which was during the mid-Edo period, when Japan had closed its doors to the outside world.  He had a great respect for living things, probably as a result of his ties to Zen Buddhism.  The roosters in the first paining have such individuality.  I'm not sure how well you can see it, but in the last painting, the octopus has a cute baby hanging on to the extended arm.

  2. Another lovely beaded Letter. Excellent flow and curves...not an easy thing to accomplish with bugle beads. Love the colors as well. Not familiar with your 'J' artist, but with the Japanese philosophy of art in nature. The roosters are amazing.
