I'm beading slowly, as I find the time. Until just recently I'd forgotten how good it feels to be productive. I just finished two of these three pieces. By finished, I mean completely finished -- framed and able to hang on the wall. I'm quite lax at taking the final steps to finish my work. Once the fun part is done I loose interest, and move on to a new piece. Bad habit. I'm going to try to remember how good it feels to have things 100% finished.
These three pieces, all 10 x 10 inches, and are my second effort at becoming a member of the Santa Barbara Art Association. I've made changes since the last time. I've incorporated a suggestion from the prior go round, and am using uniform frames. I'm going to call my medium "assemblage" and not embroidery. Assemblage is a recognized "fine art" while embroidery has strong craft connotations.

Love your Assemblages!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job! I know what you mean by lose interest. I have a Mt. Rainier cross stitch that's been stalled since 2005. And I have a converse sneaker I was going to bead for a beaded shoe contest...in 1998. When I was still in California. I dragged it with me to Washington and back to Massachusetts.
ReplyDeleteIs it embroidery or isn't it - never mind - your projects are full of artistry and perfect!
ReplyDeleteJust so beautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt’s so nice to see you here. I hope you are enjoying the journey of beading. I love your works here...so intricate especially doing the swirl designs. I love the 3rd one..silver and blue. Nice to see you here
ReplyDeletethese are amazing Liz! they have such a fluid, organic feel to them ... like the water's edge with a bit of seaweed tangled in it or when the water pulls back and you can find a starfish in an estuary .... I can hear the surf when I look at these!
ReplyDeleteThese are alive and in motion! I can FEEL them just by looking at them ~ feel their force, their strength, and their beauty. And that is just from internet photos! Having them in front of you, touching them, must bring such a sense of motion, satisfaction, ambition, peace. Looking forward to hearing how this year goes and if they notice that you listened to what they were looking for.
