I'm doing a brief spring post. I told myself I wasn't going to, but I just can't help myself.
This spring the Lilac bushes have bewitched me. White, lavender or dark purple - their color, fragrance and short-lived glory remind me of AE Housman's Loveliest of Trees.
Loveliest of Trees
Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.
Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.
And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.
-A. E. Housman
My front yard smells soooooooo good from the bank of lilacs that separate my yard from next door. I wish the blooms lasted longer and would bloom again all summer.
ReplyDeleteI love the lilacs and all the colours from white, light lilac(hahaha) to deeper purple. We are delayed here with the lilac bushes/trees so hopefully they will soon be out and one can breathe in their beauty. Love the poem
ReplyDeleteLike the Houseman and the lilacs (green grow their heart-shaped leaves). Your blog is quite the treat for the rest of us on a Monday morning.
ReplyDeleteThe lilacs...lovely and romantic kick off to Spring/Summer. And the poem is beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you did a 'Spring' Post. I've missed you since the AtoZ Challenge. Just browsed a bit and love your bead jewelry projects....beautiful. Can't believe it is already June, and like you I am posting about flowers and plants. Well, you know that since you stopped by my Mary Mary garden post. So good to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you that you so inspired me during the Challenge that I have set up my BEAD Stuff and have made a few pieces...actually it's Retro Repurposed jewelry. I'm having fun with it....thanks for the inspiration.

Beautiful post! but had to giggle ... every time I hear the work 'bewitched' I think of the end of Pride and Prejudice where Darcy is confessing his love and 'bewitch-ment' of Elizabeth - LOL. and now I have it stuck in my head for the day! will have to pull it out and watch!
