When I think of Art Deco, my thoughts immediate go to Romain de Tirtoff, who worked under the name of Erté. He was a Russian-born French designer who had a very long career. Honestly I have mixed feelings about his portrayal of femininity. Sometimes I feel like the use of such opulent, extravagant decoration overshadows the humanity of his subjects (mostly women). However, the other side of me admires his flamboyant and exotic style. He worked for Harpers Bazaar and designed over 250 magazine covers from 1915-1937. He was a huge force in fashion, graphic arts, interior décor, costume/set design and even jewelry. He continued to work until shortly before his death in 1990 at the age of 97!

DeleteYes I've created the beaded letters. It's a bit of an odd approach but I joined the challenge specifically so I could bead the alphabet. Both the blog hop and making the letters have been great fun so far. I hope people don't run out of steam (including me) as there is a long way to go :-)

I definitely have seen Erte' Art, and like you really appreciate them for the impact they have had over time in so many areas. Thanks for your visits this first week of AtoZ.
